Depo-Provera
The FDA recently updated warning labels linking use of the birth control shot Depo-Provera to meningiomas. Have you or a loved one been diagnosed with a brain tumor (meningioma)? You may be eligible for compensation.
For decades, millions of women trusted Depo-Provera (medroxyprogesterone acetate) as a safe form of birth control. However, a 2024 study found that women who use Depo-Provera for more than a year were 5.6 times likely to develop meningiomas–tumors that grow on the membranes covering the brain and spinal cord. Meningioma brain tumors are the most common type of brain tumors and while they are not typically cancerous, they can cause life threatening injuries and even death. The FDA approved the addition of new language to the warning for the use of Depo-Provera regarding the risk of meningioma brain tumors in December 2025. An MDL was formed for Depo-Provera in the Northern District of Florida in February 2025. There are currently over 3,000 active claims. A number of state court cases have also been filed, mostly in Delaware and New York.
Key Symptoms of Meningiomas to Watch For:
- Persistent or worsening headaches
- Vision changes (blurriness or double vision)
- Hearing loss or ringing in the ears
- Loss of smell or memory issues
- Weakness in arms or legs
