Chemical manufacturers have a responsibility to the public to test for any harm their products might do to humans. If products are found to be harmful, those products shouldn’t be sold, or at the very least, should contain very strong warnings about how exposure to the product can affect people.

The makers of glyphosate, sold under the brand name Roundup, had that responsibility, but did not fulfill it when they decided to sell the weedkiller. The product has been linked to non-Hodgkin lymphoma. If you have used Roundup or have been exposed to it and developed non-Hodgkin lymphoma, you should seek legal counsel.

Those who may be in the greatest danger are landscapers, agricultural workers, farmers, avid home gardeners, those who frequently mow and treat lawns or anyone else who routinely uses it to keep weeds away, either at a home or commercial setting.

A scientific study labeled glyphosate, the main ingredient in Roundup, a class 2A carcinogen, meaning it may cause cancer. Glyphosate may be linked to cases of non-Hodgkin lymphoma.

Some consumers have taken action and filed lawsuits against Monsanto, the company that makes Roundup. Some class action lawsuits have been filed, and if you take action soon, you may be able to join these lawsuits. If you have been exposed to Roundup, it is important to know your rights, and to act quickly. The statute of limitations, which restricts how long you have to file a lawsuit, may prevent you from filing suit if you do not seek representation quickly. It is important to begin research soon to see if you should be represented by counsel.

Glyphosate Declared Probable Carcinogen

Roundup is sold extensively around the world.

The World Health Organization is an esteemed group that monitors various health concerns. The International Agency for Research on Cancer is part of The World Health Organization, and does research on many different types of cancer. The IARC produced an extensive report on various insecticides and herbicides in 2015. The report included information on glyphosate.

The WHO announced that glyphosate was a “probable carcinogen” in March 2015, and lawsuits were filed against Monsanto after the WHO made the announcement.

The IARC cited evidence from exposure to humans reported since 2001, including cases in Canada, the U.S. and Sweden. In 1985, glyphosate was originally labeled probably carcinogenic by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency based on tumors in mice, but the EPA changed this after re-evaluating the mice study in 1991.

Monsanto has said in media reports that Roundup, and glyphosate, are safe and effective.

PBS Newshour published a story about this development in 2015, which you can read here.

Glyphosate is used in other similar products, too.

Currently, many lawsuits against Monsanto are filed in Northern California as part of an MDL – multi-district litigation. Kentucky plaintiffs can seek representation from our firm, and we will assist our clients with filing suit against Monsanto.
